During Global Money Week, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU) in collaboration with 21 commercial banks and JSC “Uzbek republican currency exchange”, 428 educational schools and 88 higher educational institutions and the support of two ministries, held various activities in all regions of the country, which covered more than 123,000 people. The activities dedicated to the theme of the GMW "Protect your money, secure your future" covered financial security, digital financial literacy, savings culture, new digital banking services, and responsible lending. The population aged 14-50 was identified as the priority target group. For the second year in a row, large-scale trainings for young people were held across the country, reaching 2,135 university students. Speakers were experts of the Central Bank and from 15 commercial banks. The Central Bank has developed cases of financial fraud. Participants were supposed to solve the different cases and choose the correct definitions. During the situational game, the speakers explained in detail the risks of each specific situation. A special project to train the trainers was also implemented, through the training of 200 special volunteers which helped reach 8 804 students from non-economic universities. The project was conducted by the Central Bank in collaboration with 14 economic universities across the Republic and covered 88 non-economic universities in 14 regions of the country. The Central Bank has also developed educational material in the "edutainment" format aimed at teaching the basics of "cyber hygiene" and building knowledge in the area of financial security in the format of an interactive calendar with practical cases. The interactive calendar was produced in 200 copies and handed out to active participants of the Week's events. The 21 commercial banks held open lessons for schoolchildren in 428 schools across the country on financial security and digital financial literacy, savings, and digital bank services. The educational events reached 23,462 schoolchildren in grades 5-11. Besides, banks conduct 15 creative contests for the schoolchildren of 5-11 grades and youth. In addition, in the framework of "cyber hygiene", experts from commercial banks held educational masterclasses on digital financial literacy at 43 universities, where 4 945 students received information on new digital banking services and financial security.

In 2024, for the first time, the JSC “Uzbek republican currency exchange” took part in the activities of the Week and held an online quiz “UZCE quiz” on financial literacy. The quiz tasks were related to topics of finance, investments, financial instruments, stock exchange, and activities of the JSC “Uzbek republican currency exchange”. At each stage, the tasks consisted of 5-15 questions on financial literacy. A total of 1,811 people took part in the quiz. The winners of the quiz were awarded with prizes.

As part of the Week, a large-scale information campaign was organised in the mass media. Each event of the Week was promoted on social networks, national TV channels, and Internet media. The events of the Week have been broadcast on the official websites and pages of social networks of the Central Bank and Finlit.uz –the Central Bank's project on financial literacy, as well as on media channels of commercial banks and JSC “Uzbek republican currency exchange”.

During the Global Money Week 2023 the Central Bank of Uzbekistan with the involvement of 21 commercial banks, 2 ministries, 214 educational schools and 41 universities initiated and held various educational activities in all regions of the country, which covered about 160,000 people. The activities addressed various topics related to the GMW2024 theme "Plan your money, plant your future!", such as the concept and importance of financial literacy, savings culture, bank deposits, new digital banking services, responsible lending, financial security and financial technology and digital financial literacy. Schoolchildren, young people and people aged between 18 and 50 were priority target groups for this year’s campaign. The Central Bank initiated an educational project for 3rd and 4th grade students of pedagogical universities to develop the skills of future teachers in developing educational materials to improve financial literacy among schoolchildren. More than 150 students from 14 universities from all regions of the country participated in the programme and improved their knowledge on integrating financial literacy issues into current academic disciplines, with the support of experts.

Furthermore, the Central Bank organised contests on creating videos under the slogan of the week "Plan your money, plant your future!" among teachers (for the best lesson plans). Master classes were conducted in 214 school by 21 commercial banks covering such topics as savings, digital financial literacy, banking services/products and basic rules of financial security. The banks also provided training sessions for more than 230 teachers. The educational sessions reached 9,144 schoolchildren in grades 5 to 11. In addition, lecture courses by 13 commercial banks were conducted in 26 universities from 9 regions, involving more than 1,500 students.

As a part of the Global Money Week, a large-scale information campaign was organised in the mass media. Each event of the Week was promoted in social networks, national TV and radio channels, Internet and print media. The events of the Week were broadcast on the official websites and pages of social networks of the Central Bank and commercial banks. The direct coverage of the educational events was 159,730 people. Approximate coverage of the outreach information campaign was 1 631 113 people.

During the Global Money Week, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan with the involvement of 21 commercial banks, 2 ministries and 3 departments, 5 fintech and 14 insurance companies, 253 educational schools, and 69 higher educational institutions held various educational activities in all regions of the country, which covered more than 138 thousand people.

The activities included coverage of important areas related to the theme of the Week "Build your future, be smart about money!", such as the concept and importance of financial literacy, savings culture and bank deposits, new digital banking services, responsible lending, financial security, financial technology, the concept of insurance and types of insurance products.

Priority target groups were schoolchildren, young people, and the population in ages between 14-50.

An online financial literacy test was conducted for children of 14-15 years old on the kundalik.com platform. The online test covered questions about banking services, money management, and the basics of financial security. Students were able to test basic economic knowledge, skills, and abilities. More than 21 thousand people took part in the online test. Schoolchildren who answered 11 or more correct questions received personal certificates from the Central Bank.

Commercial banks held open lessons for schoolchildren in 228 schools across the country on savings, bankcards, and basic financial security rules. The educational events covered 17,741 students in grades 5-11.

To promote financial education in schools, the Central Bank, in cooperation with commercial banks, held training sessions for more than 800 teachers under the project "Month of Financial Literacy in Schools." According to the educational programme developed by the Central Bank, teachers were able to conduct lessons on financial literacy in their schools independently and, based on the results, to send a video for participation in a competition for teachers on the topic "Why is it safe and profitable to keep money in banks?” 157 educators participated in the competition. Indirect coverage of events for students and teachers was 306,746 people.

A large-scale project for young people across the country was initiated as part of the week. More than 2,000 young people were able to take part in master classes on financial literacy at regional youth centres. Master classes were held in the "edutainment" format for high school and university students. Speakers of the master classes were highly qualified specialists of commercial banks, fintech and insurance companies, as well as successful entrepreneurs, who told young people about current trends in the world of finance.

In the process of organising the master classes, the Central Bank developed an interactive game on savings. During the game, participants chose types of investments (bank deposits, entrepreneurship, currency, and precious metals), and ways to manage them in different economic situations. During the game, the speakers explained in detail the advantages and disadvantages of each type of investment. Over 58,144 people were indirectly involved in these workshops.

In addition, through the training of 260 volunteers in 2022 about 4,000 students of non-economic universities were able to improve their financial literacy through 70 special interactive trainings across the country. The project was conducted by the Central Bank together with 15 economic universities across the republic and covered 69 non-economic universities in 14 regions of the country. Indirect training outreach was 19,814 people.

In addition, the Central Bank, together with TBC Bank, held educational training for the population on savings and deposits. The event explained such issues of financial literacy as the formation of savings, types, and terms of placement of deposits, the procedure for interest accrual.

As part of the Week, a large-scale information campaign was organised in the media. Each event of the Week was promoted in social networks, national TV and radio channels, the Internet, and printed media.

In turn, the Central Bank initiated a radio project "Financial Consultation" on the radio channel "Oriat FM", where listeners could get answers to relevant questions on the various topics: payments and transfers, bank credits, currency exchange, financial security, bank online deposits, etc. The project reached more than 800,000 people.

The direct coverage of the information campaign was more than 98,000 people. Approximate coverage of the outreach campaign was 2,501,318 people.

The events of the Week were broadcasted on the official websites and pages of social networks of the Central Bank, the Central Bank's project on financial literacy Finlit.uz, commercial banks, and the Agency for Youth Affairs.


2021 Uzbekistan Global Money Week

The Central Bank coordinated GMW2021 in Uzbekistan. Together with three agencies, 17 commercial banks, an insurance and four fintech companies involved over 2,254,149 children and youth through 14 financial education activities. These all focused on digital financial literacy, insurance literacy, use of banking products/services, and basics of financial security. Most financial literacy sessions were organised online through digital tools for children, youth and adults. Children participated in interactive activities, such as a master class on drawing with elements of financial literacy "Learn. Save. Earn" and a video contest "Take care of yourself. Take care of your money". Youth learnt about digital financial literacy and more specifically about prevention of fraud with bank cards and safe use of digital banking services. An online testing on financial mathematics for schoolchildren from the fifth grade and above was carried out on the platform of the International Olympiad School named after Khorezmiy.

During the Week, youth and others were able to participate in financial literacy competitions organised by the Central Bank and commercial banks. Moreover, the Central Bank had developed a calendar of financial discipline for the population. The calendar was posted on the Finlit.uz website. Each month of the Calendar is dedicated to specific topics on financial literacy and include interactive stickers for financial planning.

In addition, this year, university students had the opportunity to participate in educational competitions, such as the Financial Literacy Championship and the Financial Literacy Olympiad for 1st -3rd year students. The eliminatory stage and semi-finals of the competition were held in an online format. The tasks included test questions on financial literacy with elements of financial mathematics.

Awareness-rising webinar involving digital financial literacy was organised with fintech companies for students on the topic of "Take care of yourself. Take care of your money". During the webinar, the experts also highlighted the functionality of mobile applications of payment organisations. The sessions of webinar were mainly focused on common types of financial frauds and ways of protecting against them and dealing with their consequences. The speakers provided practical recommendations on the recognition of financial fraudsters on websites and social networks.

Special attention was given to improving financial literacy of employees of retail companies. In particular, the Central Bank together with fintech companies conducted an educational and practical training on digital financial literacy "Improving digital financial literacy together." The priority of the event was to explain contactless.

As part of GMW2021, 17 commercial banks held lessons and educational master classes on financial literacy for children and youth. Interactive tours explaining the principles of the work of various departments were also organised at bank branches. Educational and entertaining financial literacy activities were held for children from orphanages.

In addition, commercial banks conducted interactive online financial literacy competitions for children, young people and the whole population on their official social media pages. The competitions focus on business ideas, drawings and videos on financial goals, piggy banks, essays and articles, as well as quizzes on financial literacy.

During GMW2018, the JSCB “Mikrokreditbank” in Uzbekistan celebrated with high-level discussions, seminars and educational sessions at Tashkent State University of Economics. The Head of Foreign Economic Relations Department at JSC “Mikrokreditbank”, Mr. Khusniddin Madumarov, led the seminar with a presentation on the Bank’s financial and organisational support for young people and graduates. The aim of the presentation was to acquaint young people with the Bank’s entrepreneurship support programs. Themes covered in the discussion with youth entrepreneurs included: access to start-up microcredit, microcredit for turnover capital, micro-leasing, financial support for handicraft businesses (to support Uzbekistan's historical and cultural heritage) and the issuance of government supported loans. Moreover, other participants in the session learnt about a support programme for youth start-ups. At the end of session, students participated in a question and answer session with the employees of the bank. From the side of JSCB "Mirokreditbank" regular seminars are held for students to get, about assistance from the bank for starting a business. we know that this knowledge will help the youth in the future and they will be able to find their vocation and place in the country. The annual event of GMW has shown the direction of our bank in the field of youth support and the Bank plan to continue participating in GMW events in the years to come.

Global Money Week in Uzbekistan was celebrated for the first time in 2015. This coincided with the Bank Expo 2015, the annual national exhibition of banking services, technologies and equipment in the capital city of Tashkent. The expo was held on 12-13 March with the support of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan and in partnership with the Association of Banks of Uzbekistan and the Association of Enterprises and Organisations of Information Technologies of Uzbekistan. Commercial bank JSCB Hamkorbank presented Global Money Week during the press conference on the opening day of the Bank Expo. More than 150 youth participated in many educational activities about savings and use of banking products and services. On 17 March, JSCB Hamkorbank organised a large open seminar for more than 200 youth participants in Andijan. The seminar provided the participants information about GMW campaign and the need for financial literacy. Information about financial and banking instruments and products was also shared.
