In Sao Tome and Principe, microfinance organization CATOLICA MOVE will promote several activities with children, teenagers and young entrepreneurs, aiming to increase financial literacy awareness in the future leaders of the country. The celebrations of the Global Money Week will commence with a workshop with the young entrepreneurs who have their business incubated at “StartUp São Tomé”, a startup incubator. The session will focus on ways of financing their products and Minimum-Value Products development.

MOVE will also work with teenagers of the local high-school during a workshop on “Learn.Save.Earn”. Students will have the opportunity to visit a startup incubator and gain a good understanding of how the entrepreneurial projects contribute to financial stability and growth. There will be a very fun activity at the end of the day: A short film challenge to demonstrate the students’ grasp of the subject.

MOVE will reach out to the remote communities by promoting activities in “Monte Café”, a poor village in the country hills, and by offering a workshop on “household budget management”. The workshop will have a dual focus: promoting the importance of financial planning and savings to the mothers, and explaining the importance of savings and building piggy banks to the children.

At the close of the week, MOVE will host a commemorative event where all the participants of the Week, main partners, and key institutions of the country will be invited to attend. The event will include a presentation of the short films produced by the students during the “Learn.Save.Earn” workshop as well as a high-level discussion on financial literacy. MOVE will also invite media to this remarkable event, and all the activities will be posted or broadcasted in the social media, such as the facebook page or the youtube channel of the organization. This closing event will also be a great opportunity to participate in the GMW global selfie challenge!
