During the Global Money Week 2024, the Superintendency of Banks of Panama and its partners carried out a series of activities to promote financial education in Panama, including workshops, talks, conferences, panels, storytelling, contests, fair events, social media posts, Instagram Live and garage sales. All these activities were coordinated by the SBP, directly impacting more than 2,806 people in Panama City, Veraguas, Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí.

During Global Money Week 2023, the Superintendency of Banks with a group of partners, managed to bring financial education to 3,006 people. The activities included face-to-face workshops, talks, webinars or virtual talks, drawing contests, storytelling, Instagram Lives and online contests, all promoting financial education around issues related to savings, family budget, credit management, personal finance among others.

This year, the Superintendencia de Bancos de Panamá and partners carried out many activities for the Panamanian population about financial education with the hashtag #GMWBuildYourFuture. Some of the activities organised were webinars, workshops, start-ups, theatre play, drawing competitions, Instagram and Facebook lives, and more. In total, 5,046 participants were reached through social media platforms.
In addition, the Superintendencia de Bancos de Panamá also arranged visits to schools, universities and companies promoting financial education and money management for children and young people.

The Superintendence of Banks of Panama with the support of the German Foundation Sparkassenstiftung International Kooperation, a savings bank and the Superintendence of the Securities Market organised various events to celebrate Global Money Week in 2021. Many activities were hold, including a drawing and video contest with the slogan “Learn, save and earn!” This was a great opportunity for children in the ages of 5-12 to share their creativity and imagination on the importance of saving. Additionally, together with the Savings Bank, the Superintendence of Banks of Panama carried out a virtual workshop called "Easy Finance for Children." During this online event, young people and children learnt basic concepts of saving, the difference between need and wants. At the end, winners received prizes. Last, but not least, the Superintendence of Banks of Panama launched the children's area on their website here.

In Panama, the Global Money Week events, organised by the Superintendent, started on the 25th of March and extended well into April, to ensure that children, youth and adults across the country were impacted by the events and learnt about financial education. Workshops on subjects such as savings, family budgeting, entrepreneurship, and credit management were conducted. Furthermore, theater plays, and a mural design competition were organised.

Superintendency of Banks of Panama
For the second consecutive year, the cast of the “Learn and Grow” financial education programme by Banco Azteca along with the Bank Superintendency of Banks of Panama, participated in Global Money Week 2018 with the theme “Money Matters Matter”. The 2018 celebrations were a total success. There was a performance on financial topics called “Volver al Pasado” and a conference on protecting your business called “Cocheando tus Finanzas” in the provinces of Veraguas and Chiriquí. Every activity, not only accomplished its educational purpose, but was also carried out in a fun and exciting way. Additionally, workshops were organised in Panama City, covering themes of savings and family budgeting, both of which were much appreciated by the participants. On social media posts on Facebook amassed more than 400 engagements throughout the week.

During GMW 2017 in Panama, financial education awareness talks were offered to children, youth and adults, including sessions on the importance of saving and knowing what money is, in order to learn how to achieve a goal.
The celebrations reached five provinces in Panama, where different activities were carried out in groups of colleges and universities, reaching more than 5,500 students between the ages of 4 to 30 years of age. Many competitions were held to encourage the initiative amongst children and young students, with the main message of “Learn, Save and Earn”. The activities included:
Moneybox contest Chat Contest, Drama Contest, Murals Competition, Talent- Show, Karaoke Contest, Soccer Competition, Basketball competition, Ping-Pong Competition, The best caricature, Video Contest
Additionally, along with the Superintendencia de Bancos de Panamá, Cooperative and Financial staff led educational talks to the students, on the importance of cultivating the habit of saving, especially in the professional life, from an early age.
In 2017, university students also had the opportunity to attend an international event with friends of the Learn and Grow Programme. This event conveyed the message “Learn, Saving and Win” in a creative and original way, through the musical “Si Hubiera Ahorrado” (If I had saved), and was attended by more than 250 people, including students and teachers, receiving enthusiastic feedback.
The Superintendencia de Bancos de Panamá, in addition to carrying out the Financial Education Programme and giving talks to children and young students, presented videos to the participants in order to instill in them an awareness of the importance of saving, with the support of Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation in the activities.

For the third consecutive year, Panama joined the celebrations of Global Money Week 2016 with the slogan "Take part. Save smart!” Various activities took place in which 5,310 students from a number of schools in various parts of the country were involved. Furthermore, Global Money Week in Panama included the participation of public and private schools, and, for the first time, schools in the provinces of Chiriqui, Herrera and Los Santos joined the celebrations.
Activities included workshops, sports competitions, murals, dramatizations, talent shows, storytellers and a contest where students created piggy recycled materials. All of these activities were aimed at promoting financial education, money management and the importance of saving.
Additionally, social media channels and networks, such as Facebook, was a big tool for partners celebrating Global Money week in Panama. The "Global Money Week Panama" fan-page on Facebook reached more than 10,000.00 views and interactions with GMW publications before, during and after the celebration.
2015 Panama Global Money Week

The Superintendence of Banks of Panama leaded the celebrations of Global Money week 2015 in Panamá, through the Financial Consumer Services Department (GSAC) and its Financial Education programme. The Superintendence promoted and coordinated for the second year in a row various activities to commemorate the celebration of Global Money Week, with the theme: "Save today. Safe tomorrow". Children and young students in primary and secondary education in schools located in Panama City (Colegio Cristo de los Milagros (CBCM), Claret School, International School Mary Immaculate (CIDMI) and The King's School Panama) were delivered motivational talks to students about the importance of saving, and drawing and poster competitions for children of primary school (1st to 6th). Additionally, theater and murals contest in grades Pre-media and Media (7th to 12th), in which creativity, organisation, commitment and above all teamwork of each of the groups was evaluated. The activity aim was to promote entrepreneurship and the habit of saving with the participation of more than 1,292 students between children and youth.
Global Money Week 2015 en Panamá
La Superintendencia de Bancos de Panamá, por intermedio de la Gerencia de Servicio de Atención al Cliente Bancario (GSAC) a través del Programa de Educación Financiera, promovió y coordinó por segundo año consecutivo diversas actividades en conmemoración a la celebración del Global Money Week, con el tema: “Ahorra hoy. A salvo mañana.” con niños y jóvenes estudiantes de los niveles de Primaria, Pre-media y Media de 4 planteles educativos ubicados en la ciudad de Panamá, los cuales son: Colegio Cristo de los Milagros (CBCM), Colegio Claret, Colegio Internacional de María Inmaculada (CIDMI) y The King´s School Panamá, en donde se dictaron charlas motivadoras a los estudiantes sobre la importancia del ahorro y se realizaron concursos de dibujo y afiches para los niños y niñas de primaria (1º a 6º), aunado a los concursos de dramatización y murales en los grados de Pre-media y Media (7º a 12º), en donde se evaluó la creatividad, organización, empeño y sobre todo el trabajo en equipo de cada uno de los grupos, promoviendo así el emprendedurismo y el hábito del ahorro con la participación de más de 1,292 estudiantes entre niños, niñas y jóvenes.

In 2014 Global Money Week welcomed Panamá to the celebrations. The main education programme was held at Colegio Claret, where customer service staff of the Superintendencia de Bancos’ trained 9th to 12th grade students on topics related to financial education such as responsible money management and the importance of saving. 217 students from the school participated in the event which included a mural contest in which the importance of these issues was displayed. As the regulator and supervisor of banks in Panama, the Superintendencia de Bancos’ functions includes protecting and educating bank consumers. Part of this function is performed when promoting financial education and culture.
