Organise Savings, Drawing, Photo, Video & Essay Competitions
Launch drawing, photo and essay competitions around creative themes like: ‘Why is it important to save?’, ‘My dream bank’, ‘My money tree with dreams’, ‘What are you saving for?’, ‘Money Matters Matter’, ‘If I were an entrepreneur, which business I would own?’, ‘My dream job in the future’ or ‘My business idea.’ Also, savings competitions would be a great idea! And, so many more!
EXAMPLE To reach wider youth in Indonesia, Allianz Indonesia made the campaign online through the GMW Vlog Competition. Each vlog consisted of 3 students, sharing their passion and how they utilize the digital economy to develop their passion. 76 groups of students from 59 high schools across Indonesia participated in the competition. The judges selected the 10 best video and the winners were invited to Eduventure in Jakarta. The winners visited an insurance company, Allianz Indonesia, BTPN Jenius, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), and the National Financial Services Authority (OJK) to learn more about digital economy from the experts. During the trip, the students were asked to make a vlog about the things they learnt from the Eduventure and uploaded them to Instagram, so that a greater audience will see them. All vlogs can be accessed on Instagram with the hashtag #GMWIndonesia2018.
EXAMPLE The activities of the Global Money Week were very diverse and included: EXAMPLE This year, the Central Bank of Albania also held five competitions: a photo competition: “The only free cheese is in the mousetrap”, an art competition: “Where does money come from?”, infographics competitions and a recycling competition. The winners of the contests were granted different awards including stationaries, financial books and more. EXAMPLE Activities organised this year were built on those of previous years that have proven to be successful. “Be Money Wi$e – Securing My Future Goals Today”, an essay competition on GMW 2016’s theme of “Take Part. Save Smart.” was launched prior to the start of GMW2017, where students from across the country could participate. These essays were then judged and awarded at the end of GMW. Additionally, these essays were used by the bank to listen to the voices of the youth and understand their concerns and aspirations towards saving and money habits. EXAMPLE NBG and the National Youth and Children’s Palace continued the tradition of holding creative competitions in drawing, photography and essays on the topic of “Learn. Save. Earn.” The authors of select works were awarded special prizes, prepared in cooperation with Finca Bank Georgia, and were invited to an exciting field-trip to the Money Museum of Kvareli, Georgia. Furthermore, NBG visited several schools and, in cooperation with Business and Technology University, supported the development of regional financial literacy clubs. Moreover, NBG visited BTU Kids’ club and talked about financial and entrepreneurial affairs with young innovators and inventors.
EXAMPLE The Integra Association conducted the savings campaign “Participate, Save smart!”, which ran for three consecutive days. To take part in the campaign, each school was required to register for one to three teams of students, each composed of two to six students. Each team received a “challenge” related to the campaign slogan and then had two days to explore the environment, to offer a plan of an innovative solution formed as a presentation and submit the presentation to the jury. The jury determined the best team who received an award at the international conference, certificates of participation from CYFI, and the team also interviewed with and met local businessman.
EXAMPLE In Hungary, Global Money Week coincided with Students’ Day and was jointly celebrated by cake-baking competition held on 05 March 2016. The theme of the cakes evidently being “money”, some cakes were baked in the shapes of piggy banks, others with euro and local currency coins and bills shape, and other cakes had saving quotes written with glazing.
EXAMPLE Theatre and plays with children were also encouraged through the launching of a drama competition. Year 9 students challenged themselves to create 7-minute skits relating to money matters while incorporating the following words/ concepts: budget; save; future; financial planning; loans; credits; needs vs wants. After the preliminary round, the top 3 skits were announced as finalists, where they competed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the prize-giving ceremony on 17th March 2016.

EXAMPLE The Emirates Foundation met with the young girls from the Umm Ommara School two weeks prior to Global Money Week and organised a savings competition. Students were given two weeks to save as much money as they could, and the top 5 savers were awarded prizes. The students made a total saving amounting to $163. Students also participated in an activity, where they were asked “why they wanted to save” and to depict that through a drawing. |
